Developing Your College Essay Arsenal Workshop

for high school seniors

When: September 15, 2018, 10am-2pm

In just four hours, high school seniors are transformed into motivated, confident, and competitive college applicants. This is a hands-on writing workshop with specific direction and advice from Lisa McLaughlin, M.Ed., a college admission strategist with more than 25 years of experience.

Using Lisa’s unique storytelling method, students brainstorm an arsenal of potential college essay topics for their main personal statement, as well as the three most common supplemental essays. Then, students will go home to write college essays with confidence in a much shorter amount of time. This workshop is ideal for students completing The Common Application and/or the UC Application.

What’s Included in the 4-hour session?

Creative, engaging essay brainstorming activities to aid in topic identification for the four main college essays students will write including:

• The Personal Statement
• Why College X Essay
• Academic Interest/Major Essay
• Meaningful Activity Essay

An overview of the most confusing aspects of college applications:

• Understanding the Most Common College Application Prompts
• The Activity List/Resume and how to write compelling descriptions
• How to secure the best teacher and counselor recommendations
• When and how to send test scores and transcripts
• Identifying whether or not early decision/early action is the best application plan
• How to get and stay organized to meet major application deadlines and milestones
